News:

It looks like our venue may be closing so we have had to suspend rehearsals for a short while until a new venue can be found.  Until then, if you are interested in coming along then still get in touch as we hope to be up and running some time in February 2012.  Members will be notified through our mailing lost, if you are not a member you can still email drum@blocolouco.com and I'll keep you posted.

Come along to our workshops:

The gig season for our band is now over after a fantastic finale at Birmingham Artsfest.  That means we can get back to teaching and learning new rhythms (soon!!).  No experience necessary as we are a community band, but any musical or percussion experience is a bonus! You don't need to bring any instruments along as we have plenty.

If you have any questions about coming along to a workshop which are not covered on this website, please email us at drum@blocolouco.com

How much does it cost?

Your first workshop is free, no obligation.  After that our workshops cost a nominal fee of:

  • £5 for the bateria workshop (7:30 till 9:30pm - whole percussion band rehearsal and practice) and
  • £1 for the sectional workshops (7:00 till 7:30pm - focussed workshops on particular aspects of samba, these will vary in content as needed).

Pay on the day. You'll never know how much of a bargain that is unless you drop by.

When and where?

We practice usually every Tuesday and the normal start time is 7:30pm.  Our old location was Ladywood Arts & Leisure Centre, 316 Monument Road, Birmingham, B16 8TR but we are looking for a new place due to closure of the venue :(

Who are Blocolouco?

Blocolouco are a community samba group formed in January 2007 at the MAC in Edgebaston.  We offer workshops in samba percussion to the people of Birmingham and the West Midlands, no experience necessary - you just need to be an adult, or bring a parent/guardian.  Begginer? The Winter is a good time to start learning samba as this is when we go back to basics i.e. techniques, new rhythms, new instruments etc.  Then around February we start preparing for the gig season.
